OUGD503 - COLLABORATIVE SESSION 01 - Brief Selection and Contract Discussion

Prior to yesterdays session we were asked to choose a collaborative partner and select three possible briefs that we may want to work on.

We were also asked to fill in a form with information regarding what we wanted to get out of this collaboration and this brief.

I chose to work with Mr. Priyesh Desai and the three briefs we selected were;

D & AD New Blood 2013/14 – British Council

YCN Student Awards – Royal Albert Hall

YCN Student Awards – Eastpak

In the session we were then asked to pick out the pros and cons of each brief so that we could decide on one to take forward.

D & AD New Blood 2013/14 – British Council

Pros;

Challenging brief makes for an interesting project
Jasper has an interest in fashion, which could benefit us
Broad in terms of possible design outcomes
Consider print, paper and finishes – already have this knowledge

Cons;

Bilingual elements could cause difficulties in translation
Vague briefs, not exactly clear
Exhibition identity must work across a range of applications, thus a lot of work needs producing

YCN Student Awards – Royal Albert Hall

Pros;

Combining Art and Sciences
Should be an omni-channel, seamless approach, integrating digital comms

Cons;

Extremely diverse audience, which makes this brief difficult

YCN Student Awards – Eastpak

Pros;

Target audience is near our age group, hence we would be able to gather appropriate feedback efficiently
Cons;

The Eastpak style guidelines do not complement our aesthetic preferences

After looking through the briefs properly together, we chose to work on the YCN Student Awards - Royal Albert Hall Brief.

We each individually filled out the form and then we filled on out together so that we both understood each other and could start to decide on roles each of us would undertake.

We now need to finalise the above information and digitally process it so that it can act as a contract for the project.
